Thematic parallel workshops

This workshop is designed to explore the knowledge, skills and attitudes young people need to navigate digital environments critically, confidently and responsibly. Participants will reflect on where current education and training fall short and identify priorities for equipping young Europeans for active citizenship in an increasingly digital society.

This workshop is supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation Romanian Network, coordinated by GEYC as Head of Network for 2026–2028. The activity contributes to the Network’s mission of strengthening intercultural dialogue, cooperation and exchange among civil society actors, while creating spaces for learning, co-creation and the sharing of good practices. Through this workshop, we aim to connect these objectives with the digital competences young people need to participate actively and confidently in increasingly diverse and digital societies. This workshop is designed to examine what a healthy digital public space should look like and who is responsible for creating it. Participants will explore the roles of platforms, policymakers, civil society and users in addressing online risks while protecting rights, openness and meaningful democratic debate.

The workshop is part of the dissemination events series delivered in the frame of ChildACT+ - Child Action for Effective and Inclusive Local Policies, funded by the CERV program. The main objective is to make children’s participation in local governance a structural reality across Europe and to bridge the gap between children and local authorities by embedding inclusive, rights-based, and systemic mechanisms for child engagement in public decision-making. 

This workshop is designed to move beyond the idea of digital participation towards what makes participation genuinely meaningful. Participants will explore how digital tools and spaces can help young people engage with decision-making, advocate for their priorities and influence the policies and communities that affect their lives.

The workshop is part of the study visit series delivered in the frame of EU-MATTER: European Understanding - Mobilising Awareness through Training, Trust, Engagement and Representation, funded through the CERV program. The main objective is to reconnect young Europeans with the EU’s democratic processes, institutions, and values, as well as strengthen democratic engagement and European identity through civic literacy, critical thinking, and participatory dialogue.
